FREE COMMUNITY MEAL
Mt. Nebo UMC will be hosting another Community Meal on Saturday, October 19th with the meal being served from 5-7pm. Following the meal we will have an evening of fall fun for all ages from 7-9pm. This month will be a Southern-Style Louisiana Catfish Fry with french fries, coleslaw, macaroni & cheese and applesauce. For dessert there will be homemade fruit cobblers with ice cream to top it off! Each month just seems to get better and more fun for those that have joined us. Invite your family, friends, neighbors…anyone you can think of and come on out and have a wonderful meal, some fun and some laughs! This event is held in our Family Life Center, which is handicapped accessible from the street entrance or the back parking lot Preschool entrance. Mt. Nebo is located at 134 S. Soprano Elisabeth Turchi will perform a concert of sacred, secular, operatic, and Broadway selections on Sunday, October 20, 3:00 PM in the nave of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. John Angle will accompany Ms. Turchi. Also joining her will be Edward Stanley on oboe and several of Ms. Turchi’s students from Cumberland Valley School of Music. There is no admission charged for this performance sponsored by St. Paul Special Events. A free will offering will be taken. For more information, contact Linda Strickler at 717-263-4975.
Elisabeth Turchi’s charisma and agile vocal styling have charmed audiences abroad and in the United States. Equally at home on stage and in concert, Ms. Turchi’s versatility as an artist is evident in the diverse roles she has performed from comic to dramatic. Some of her stage credits include Musetta (La Bohème), the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Madame Silverklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Lucy (The Telephone). Ms. Turchi’s numerous concert engagements include a European tour of Haydn’s Creation with two-time Grammy winner Robert Page and his Festival Singers, A Night at the Opera with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and the Mozart Mass in C Minor at Pennsylvania’s Luhrs Performing Arts Center. An advocate of new and avant-garde music, Ms. Turchi performed Dave Brubeck’s Canticles of Mary with the composer and his famous quartet.
Ms. Turchi is an alumna of Bel Canto at Caramoor, The International Institute of Vocal Arts, The Westchester Summer Vocal Institute, The International Lyric Academy of Rome, and The Ezio Pinza Council of American Singers of Opera. She holds degrees in vocal performance from Carnegie Mellon University and Shenandoah University.
