April Events - Free Weekly Walking Group
Free Weekly Walking Group at Fairgrounds Park
The City of Hagerstown Parks & Recreation Division announces a new partnership with HEAL of Washington County, a new non-profit focused on preventing and reducing the prevalence of obesity through promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles. On Saturday, April 20, HEAL will be moving its free weekly FitWalks to Fairgrounds Park. The Parks & Recreation Division is excited to host this new health and fitness program previously held at North Hagerstown High School's track.
HEAL FitWalks is a free weekly walking group for all ages to be held each Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Led by area fitness professionals, the walks are geared for beginner and intermediate fitness levels. Participants will be able to learn and ask questions as they walk. This program will be continuing every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to register online at http://healfitwalks2-eorg.eventbrite.com/ or call (301) 991-0899. The group meets at the pavilion to the right of Parking Lot A, which is located just above the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex. Access the park from the main entrance off Cleveland Avenue, and take a right to follow the signs to the ice rink and softball and soccer fields.
Fairgrounds Park is the Cityís largest active recreation park and is located at 351 N. Cleveland Avenue. Walking and fitness trails are offered at the park, as well as many sports-related activities.
HEALís mission is working toward the prevention of obesity for a healthier community. The City of Hagerstown's Parks & Recreation Division strives to facilitate programs that focus on making Hagerstown a healthier and more active community. Therefore, partnering together on this event seemed like a perfect fit. The programs will benefit citizens of the community by offering free activities to those who may not have access to other health and fitness programs.
