Jonathan Hager House & Museum Opening on April 5th
The Jonathan Hager House and Museum will be opening for the season and welcoming visitors on Friday, April 5, 2013. This year, the home will be open for extended hours on the weekends.
The Hager House is open for self-guided tours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The home is also available for tour by appointment Sunday through Thursday. The Hager House will be open for the season through December and is located in Hagerstown’s City Park along 110 Key Street.
On June 5, 1739, Jonathan Hager purchased 200 acres of land and dubbed his tract “Hager’s Fancy.” Not many American cities older than the country itself can present the homes of their founders completely restored. For this very reason, touring the Hager House is like taking a walk through the past as it is completely outfitted with authentic furnishings of the period. Placards throughout the home tell the story of Jonathan Hager's family and their way of life during Hagerstown's earliest years.
The Jonathan Hager House and Museum will also be open during certain special events happening within the City of Hagerstown. Visitors can plan to tour the Hager House during the 2013 Museum Ramble slated for May 4th and 5th and during the Railroad Heritage Days on May 18th and 19th.
The Hager House is always looking for docents and volunteers to help expand the hours offered for touring and at special events. If you are interested in assisting as a docent or volunteer, please contact Amy Riley with the City of Hagerstown's Parks and Recreation Department at 301-739-8577 x 180.
