Fort Frederick State Park Will Host French & Indian War 250th Anniversary Event Maryland Colonial Heritage Event

Big Pool, MD-  Three 18th Century Military Powers in North America, the French, the British and Woodland Indian Nations will return to Maryland to re-create the incredible events that changed the world. The major battles of the Seven Years War in North America or the French & Indian War 1756-1763 will be presented at Fort Frederick State Park on the weekend of July 26-27-28, 2013.

The historic stone fort, Fort Frederick, will be the backdrop for over 1,000 period costumed living historians bringing to life Colonial Maryland. “The focus is on education and the understanding of our world history,” said Tom Vogeley, a Maryland high school history teacher and British Officer for the event. “Where else can a family see a 1757 Woodland Indian Summer Camp, and walk among them?”

During the event a time and place will be set aside to meet a historical character. Meet a “Molly,” a military engineer, a seamstress, a surgeon, a French Officer, a wood wright, an artillerist, a wampum maker and many more characters.

The Friends of Fort Frederick will host the event starting on Friday, July 26th. “The Friends will bring over 40 artisans and period goods sellers to make even shopping an education experience,” said Ralph Young, a member of the Friends group.

This special event is brought to you by the Maryland State Parks, the Friends of Fort Frederick, The Grand Encampment Council and the main sponsor, the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
