SPECIAL FUNDRAISER TO APPLAUD CAPITOL THEATRE’S 85TH ANNIVERSARY

       The Capitol Theatre opened in a grand spectacular fashion on Feb. 3, 1927 and is celebrating its 85th Anniversary this year.  Special commemorative brass seat plates are being offered as a fundraiser for the historic Capitol Theatre in honor of its 85th Anniversary.  These tax-deductible gifts will be recognized in the following way:  One brass seat plate on a balcony seat arm for a $125.00 donation; one brass seat plate on an arm of a seat in the front section of the theatre for a $500.00 donation and one brass seat plate on an arm of a seat in the back section of the theatre for a $250.00 donation.  Contact the Capitol Theatre at (717) 263-0202

Hagerstown Rotary’s Eighth Annual Bull and Oyster Roast will be held Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Hagerstown Community College ARCC.

          One of the larger events of its type in the area, this year’s Bull and Oyster Roast will feature raw and fried oysters, pit roasted beef, Hoffman’s sausages, ham, chicken fajitas and a number of other side dishes and dessert  Beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea will be served. There will be table games as well as musical entertainment by Hicktown and DJ Lou Scally.  Doors will open at noon, and food will be served beginning at 1 p.m

Tickets are $40 each for pre-paid orders postmarked no later than Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012.  After that date, the price will be $45 per person until Friday, Feb. 17. Tickets at the door will be $50.

Providing Relief for Autistic Youth, Inc in partnership with Chambersburg Memorial YMCA invite you to an evening of pool time on February 17th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the 570 E. McKinley Street, Cambersburg, PA location.
 
This event is open to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders and family members. 
 
Advance payment only of $4.00 per swimmer (YMCA Members are free with ID) is required for this event.  Please note that one parent must accompany their child in the pool.

Local Senior Idol Contest
The contest will be held on February 18th (Feb. 25th inclement weather date) at 2pm at the Broadfording Church of The Brethren Fellowship , 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown MD 21740. Tickets will be available at The Washington County Commission On Aging, located on 140 W. Franklin street, Hagerstown
The deadline for applications is January 20. For applications please call 301-790-0275 x 205. Applicant's must be at least 60 years old and a resident of Maryland
The winner and Runner -up of the local contest, will represent Washington County at the State contest in Prince George's County, at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts in Bowie Maryland on April 4, 2012.
There will be a guest Appearance from Mr. Sterling Dorn, 2011 State Maryland Senior Idol Winner.
 

Williamsport Blue Band Boosters Longaberger and Vera Bradley Bingo will be held on Sunday, February 12th, 2012 at the Elk's Lodge on Robinwood Dr, Hagerstown. Tickets are $25 per person and includes the meal and 26 games of Bingo. Refreshments, raffles and tip jars will be available to purchase. Doors will open at 11:30 am – Dinner will be provided by the Elks Lodge at 12:30 pm. Bingo begins at 1:30 pm. To order tickets contact Kristi Palmer 301-331-7409. HCC’s annual Flower & Garden Show held March 17-18

The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will present the tri-state area’s largest and most extensive floral event, the 18th annual Flower & Garden Show, on Sat., March 17 and Sun., March 18, at the College’s Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. This year’s theme is “Brown to Green – The Promise of Spring!”

The public is invited to the opening reception and awards ceremony on Sunday, February 12, between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. Award winners will receive their prizes and light refreshments will be offered by the Museum’s volunteer organization, the Singer Society. The exhibition is on view January 28 through April 29, 2012. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for their favorite photograph in the Popular Prize Award, sponsored by FirstLook Photo of Hagerstown. The winner of this award will be announced at the close of the exhibition.

HAGERSTOWN LIGHT DEPARTMENT OFFERS FREE THERMOSTATS

The City of Hagerstown Light Department customers are now able to apply for a free programmable thermostat.  To qualify, individuals must be a Hagerstown Light Department customer in good standing; own their home; have a total household income of less than $72,850; have an existing, working, non-programmable whole house thermostat; and have gas, oil or electric heat and a central electric cooling system.  Individuals who qualify can call 301-790-2600 and ask about the Free Programmable Thermostat Installation.   CLICK HERE to read more
